IMPORTANT CURRENT AFFAIRS : 30.06.2013

1. Justice P Sathasivam, the senior most judge of the Supreme Court, will be the next Chief Justice of India (CJI). Justice Sathasivam (64) will take over as the 40th CJI after the expiry of
present CJI Altamas Kabir’s over nine-month tenure on July 19.

2. CPI has become the first political party to respond ...to an RTI application after a CIC order declared parties as public authorities.

3. ICC to hold its 1st World Test Championship in England in 2017.

4. In a triple bonanza for India, it will host the World T20 Cup competition in 2016 and World Test Championship 2021,both for the first time, and the 50-over World Cup for the fourth time in 2023,the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced in London on Saturday.

5. The West Indies will host the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's World Twenty 20 in2018 and the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2022.

6. Afghanistan was granted the Associate membership of the ICC, making it the eighth Asian nation and the 38th overall to get the
status.

7. Taj Mahal ranked third among top landmarks in the world: Travellers from across the globe have ranked India's Taj Mahal among the top three landmarks in the world, a leading travel
website has announced.

8. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi has been ranked among the world's top 25 landmark attractions based on reviews and feedback by travellers.

9. Healthcare Economist Dr Mukesh Hariawala conferred the prestigious ‘Indian Health care Visionary of the Decade’ award at a glittering ceremony of the 4th Annual Business Leadership Conclave at Hotel Leela in Mumbai.

10. Air Marshal Arup Raha to take over as Indian Air Force Vice Chief, succeeding Air Marshal D CKumaria.

11. Anil Goswami takes charge as new Home Secretary.

12. Bimal Julka (IAS MP:1979), presently serving as Special Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of External Affairs has been appointed as the new Secretary, Ministry of Information
and Broadcasting. He will replace Uday Kumar Varma.

13. Alok Rawat (IAS WB:1979), presently serving as Secretary, (PG & Coordination) Cabinet Secretariat, has been appointed as new Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources. He will succeed Syamal Kumar Sarkar.

14. Sujata Singh (IFS 1976), India's ambassador to Germany, has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary. She is the senior most officer in the Indian Foreign Service and will succeed Rajan Mathai.

15. Germany's Nico Rosberg won a dramatic British Grand Prix for Mercedes on Sunday after one of several explosive tyre failures scuppered team mate Lewis Hamilton's hopes of home victory.

16. Combining a three-bladed Darrieus turbine on top, a Savonius turbine underneath, and a generator in between, the SKWID power
generation concept is claimed to be the world's first hybrid system "capable of maximizing the harvesting of ocean energy from wind and current".The SKWID, from the Japanese company Mitsui Ocean Development & Engineering Company (MODEC), is designed to capitalize on the energy potential available both in the winds above the ocean, and in the currents flowing beneath the waves.
